Former GiG director joins Hero Gaming as COO
Matthew Vassallo will be responsible for payments product and operations, as well as the customer services team
Hero Gaming has hired former Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) director of operations and chief experience officer, Matthew Vassallo, as its chief operating officer, EGR Intel has learned.
Vassallo joined the Malta-based firm earlier this month after an almost two-year stint at GiG where he was responsible for support, payments and responsible gambling operations.
Hero Gaming CEO Tomas Backman said he had met Vassallo during his time at GiG as CEO of the gaming arm.
“Matt was director of operations at GiG after the acquisition [of Betit] where he held the responsibility for both B2B and B2C for payments product and ops and B2C for customer service,” Backman said.
“He joined Hero on 1 October as COO and his main responsibilities are payments product, payments operations and customer services operations.”
On working with Vassallo, Backman told EGR Intel: “I have been working closely with Matthew for the last couple of years and his skillset and knowledge in the areas of payments and support has always impressed me.
“I think with the help of Matthew, Hero Gaming will create a competitive edge within these areas and I am very happy to have him on-board.”
Vassallo said: “Working with such innovative and like-minded colleagues is my biggest motivator.
“Having also worked so well with Tomas in the past has made the transition easier,” he added.
Last month’s EGR Intel cover feature highlighted how firms are gaining small edges by innovating in areas like payments.
