Flutter Entertainment joins European Gaming and Betting Association
FTSE 100 operator signs up to safer gambling initiatives with pan-European trade body
Flutter Entertainment has agreed to join the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA). The operator joins a roster of the industry’s largest firms in becoming an EGBA member, with bet365, William Hill, Entain and Kindred Group already listed as charter members. As part of its EGBA membership, Flutter will join existing EGBA commitments in respect of safer gambling, the development of pan-European gaming regulation and on advocacy-based initiatives in EU member states. Flutter chief legal officer and group commercial director Pádraig Ó Ríordáin welcomed the move, praising the EGBA’s recent joint member initiative to promote stronger cultures of safer gambling throughout the industry. “Safer gambling and sustainability are paramount to everything we do at Flutter, so joining the EGBA was a natural fit for us,” he said. “We look forward to working with other members to ensure the online gambling sector within Europe is more united on our role and responsibilities,” Ó Ríordáin added. The EGBA has previously lobbied against regulatory and taxation changes in Germany, Spain, Sweden and Italy, as well as representing the sector in dealings with the EU. The body has also produced a responsible gambling code of conduct for member firms and has advocated for anti-money laundering (AML) reform across the EU. EGBA secretary general Maarten Haijer welcomed the high-profile addition to the EGBA’s roster. He said: “It’s the collective ambition of our members to be top of the class in terms of industry responsibility and Flutter’s membership strengthens our commitment and position. “We are determined to ensure Europe’s online gambling sector is more united and coordinated in its objectives and responsibilities, and we continue to invite Europe’s other reputable online gambling companies to join us in this mission,” he added.
