Swedish Gambling Authority issues prohibition orders against 10 unlicensed operators
Regulator clamps down on firms for offering gambling without a licence under Dutch-style prioritisation criteria
The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) has issued prohibition orders against 10 companies for operating in Sweden without a licence. Operators on the receiving end of prohibition orders include Abudantia BV, Alamaro Enterprises, Alpamaro, Gammix Limited, Mirage Corporation, Mountberg Limited and Rebels Gaming Limited. TGI Entertainment NV, Tutkia Limited and Viking Technology NV were also targeted under the SGA’s prioritisation criteria, which came into force earlier this year. Any licensee which operates a smaller subsidiary firm without a licence can also be investigated by the SGA if found to be operating illegally. Following in a similar vein to directives being used by Dutch regulators, the SGA can investigate any online gambling operator if it considers the operator’s site to be specifically aimed at Swedish market consumers. Criteria include offering deposit and withdrawals in Swedish krona, as well as operating customer service and terms and conditions in the Swedish language. In addition, any operator or affiliate which targets its marketing towards Swedish consumers can also be investigated by the SGA. 1xBet was one operator targeted by the SGA earlier this year, after it found the sports betting firm’s website included information in Swedish, as well as targeting its marketing towards Swedish consumers.
