Publisher’s racing MD to take over from former Remote Gambling Association chief Clive Hawkswood
Racing Post MD Cian Nugent has been appointed to succeed Clive Hawkswood as the chairman of affiliate trade body Responsible Affiliates in Gambling (RAIG). Former Remote Gambling Association (RGA) chief Hawkswood has served as chair of the trade body since its inception in 2019, when it was created by founding members Racing Post, oddschecker Global Media and Better Collective. Clive Hawkswood He has previously urged affiliates to embrace regulatory changes as a result of the UK government’s ongoing review of the 2005 Gambling Act. Nugent said: “I’m pleased to be able to represent our industry during the crucial next phase in the development of policy and regulation of the gambling sector. “Our focus will be on education and lobbying and engaging constructively with the government and interested politicians. “Affiliates play a key role in providing enjoyable and safe environments for consumers – facts which we want to see recognised in any new laws governing our industry,” he added. Nugent joined Racing Post in January 2019 after five years as COO of exchange operator Matchbook. Elsewhere, Clive Hawkswood has agreed to become a strategic advisor to UK gambling governance consultancy company Gambling Integrity. In his new advisory role with the firm, Hawkswood will work with Gambling Integrity to develop its Pre-Audit Review (PAR) service, which helps operators conform to regulatory practices before being audited or inspected. Speaking about his appointment, he said “It is always better to seek out and address any regulatory failings, especially where they relate to player protection, before they are identified by the Gambling Commission. “I am delighted to now be part of the Gambling Integrity team working with our clients to ensure their boards are fully briefed on the steps they need to take to maximise regulatory compliance and good corporate governance,” Hawkswood added.
