Ladbrokes CEO Glynn expects âbiggest ever mobile World Cupâ
Bookmaker hoping to take Cheltenham momentum into this summerâs tournament with more mobile launches in the pipeline
Ladbrokes is hoping to carry mobile momentumgenerated by Marchâs Cheltenham festival, into this summerâs football World Cup.
This morning the operator detailed a positive performance from its new mobile sportsbook during the first three months of the year, with mobile actives up 32% and mobile stakes up 95% year-on-year.
The performance was boosted by the Cheltenham horseracing festival in March, during which mobile actives rose more than 120% compared to the 2013 festival.
Richard Glynn, CEO at Ladbrokes, told analysts during a briefing this morning that the company had improved mobileâs functionality with more than 25 product and platform updates, with more in the pipeline prior to the World Cup which starts in June.
âI think this is going to be the biggest ever mobile World Cup, and the industry is using it as an accelerant ahead of the [UK governmentâs] Point of Consumption tax,â Glynn said.
âItâs going to be intense and itâs going to be competitive, but I think itâs also going to be an incredible event for the customers.â
Since migrating its mobile sportsbook to Playtechâs Mobenga solution last December, Ladbrokes has seen its mobile performance improve and the operator revealed that it peaked at as much as 60% of revenue during particular weekends earlier this year.
The new product has been well received by customers and recently topped a customer satisfaction survey conducted by eGR Insights.
