Sportingbet adds Touch ID in major app upgrade
Touch ID login, live streaming and data visualisations added to app as operator targets UK growth
Sportingbet had released a major upgrade of its core sportsbook iOS app adding pin and Touch ID as well as new sports data visualisations and video streams.
It becomes one of only a handful of European operators to add the fingerprint login capability on iOS with Sky Bet, Full Tilt and Betfair the only other major operators currently live with Touch ID.
Live streaming has been added to a number of football markets as well as selected other sports, with data visualisations for a wide number of in-play markets.
The GVC Holdings-owned unveiled the new release, version 2.1.0, last week as it looks to capitalise on the tougher operating environment in the UK following the introduction of the Point of Consumption tax.
“The new tax-regime has increased headwinds for smaller and less diversified operators […] and the strength of GVCâs diversified operations coupled with strong cash generation and cash control place the group in an enviable position in the industry,” the firm noted in its annual results.
The app was developed in-house and comes alongside improved Android and mobile web products as the firm looks to ramp up its mobile performance during 2015.
“Given that mobile is fast becoming the natural choice for players in many markets, continued investment in mobile is seen to be key to future success,” GVC Holdings CEO Kenneth Alexander said in its annual results.
GVC reported 35% of its sports betting revenues from its European-facing Sportingbet and Latin America-facing Betboo brands came through the mobile platform in Q1 2015, up from 21% in Q1 2014.
And it said it would increase investment in the mobile platform now it has what it considered the best proprietary mobile sportsbook in the market.
