PhilWeb plans mobile lottery drive
Philippines' firm makes announcement following a 7% year-on-year increase in second quarter revenues
Gaming technology provider PhilWeb Corporation is to increase its focus on the company’s mobile lottery offering, the firm said in its Q2 results announcement.
The Philippines’ firm said it had been targeting a mobile drive for what it describes as the “Holy Grail of mobile gaming” since the early 2000s.
“Leveraging on PhilWeb’s solid mobile gaming track record from [mobile service] Premyo sa Resibo, and strong international partnerships, the thrust for 2013 going forward is to launch mobile gaming in as many countries as possible,” the firm said in a statement.
“This should further establish PhilWeb’s Corporation’s credibility in SMS Lottery and supremacy over local competitors when regulatory approvals are granted.”
“With the lure of an untapped home-play market and the promise of unrealised revenue, many gaming providers have been eyeing SMS lottery,” PhilWeb added.
“Its potential and value has been debated on extensively, but one thing remains certain: once given regulatory approval, this service will revolutionise both the mobile and gaming industry.”
PhilWeb, which operates a network of internet cafes and mobile games in the Phillippines, saw second quarter net service revenues rise to P375.5m, a 7% increase from P349.6m in the same period last year.
Internet application service income accounted for the majority of revenue with P316.7m, up from P295.7m in Q2 2012.
The company also outlined plans to increase its business scope in other Asia-Pacific countries including Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar and potentially Nepal.
