ASA announces new council member
Kirsten Miller appointed as 14th council member of advertising review group
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has announced the appointment of Kirsten Miller to its advertising review council.
Miller has more than 17 years’ of experience in digital media having worked at agencies Advertising.com, i-level, wavemaker and most recently at Maxus, where she served first as digital director before becoming managing partner.
The ASA council is the independent group that decides whether advertisements have broken the advertising rules. In her new role, Miller will be charged with judging ads across non-broadcast media only.
Speaking about her new role, Kirsten Miller called the regulation of the world of advertising a “unique responsibility”.
“I’m excited to be coming on board at a time when the ASA is beginning to deliver its new five-year strategy with a view to having more impact online” Miller added.
The council is made currently made up of 13 members two-thirds of which are independent of industry. The remaining members have a recent or current knowledge of the advertising or media sectors.
In its capacity as advertising watchdog, the ASA council has reviewed ads belonging to some of the UK’s biggest gambling firms, including William Hill, Sky Bet, Ladbrokes Coral, Tombola and Betfred.
David Currie, chairman of the Advertising Standards Authority, welcomed the appointment of Miller to the council, highlighting her background in digital media as strengthening the ASA’s regulation of online advertising.
