Betfuze launches app, predicts 66% World Cup betting will be mobile
Research carried out by mobile sports betting firm Betfuze and Coral states 66% of World Cup bets placed on mobiles, with social media a huge driver
Two-thirds of World Cup bets will be placed on mobile devices, according to research conducted by Coral and mobile sports betting affiliate Betfuze who launched its long-awaited app this week.
Coral has predicted that more than £1bn will be staked on the tournament, 66% of which will be on mobile and 70% of all bets made on in-play markets.
Betfuze has also forecast that more than three-quarters of supporters follow the game are using social media channels and Twitter has proven to be the most popular method of receiving match updates.
The firm has looked to capitalise on this by launching its innovative Sentimeter app on both Android and iOS platforms.
The app measures sentiment expressed on social media to give a score out of 100 on the likelihood of an outcome, with England rated at 54 to win tonightâs crunch game against Uruguay, who are valued at 57.
The app then uses this information to collate betting offers and prices in-app, offering to direct users to the respective offer.
âSince the last World Cup weâve seen a huge increase in fans using their smartphones to follow and bet on sports events,â Paul McNea, CEO at Betfuze, said.
âUsing predictive tools such as the Sentimeter will give them a better experience and will open up sports betting to a new generation of fans, no matter how England perform.â
