Betsson merges CTO and CPO roles with latest hire
Peter Frey joins the operator from Swedish news outlet and Aftonbladet parent company, Bonnier News
Betsson has hired Peter Frey, former chief technology officer (CTO) of Sweden’s biggest news outlet Bonnier News, to lead its technology teams.
Frey will take on both the CTO and chief product officer roles (CPO) which have been vacant since long-standing CTO and CPO, Stefan Nordin and Jörg Malang, left the firm in December 2017.
Betsson operational CEO Jesper Svensson said the roles had been merged to increase efficiency and cut out any overlap in the business.

Svensson added: “With fewer layers in the organisation we know we can be more efficient, as we did with the successful merger of marketing and commercial a while back.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about efficient delivery of business driven initiatives,” he said.
Frey’s career at Bonnier included developing one of Sweden’s most visited news sites, Aftonbladet.
At Betsson, Frey will work closely with CCO Ronni Hartvig in Malta on technology strategy and operations.
Following his departure, former Betsson CTO Nordin has moved to online travel agent On The Beach in Manchester, where he is the acting CTO.
Meanwhile, Malang has established customer loyalty scheme sharing platform, Loops, which is available to download via Apple and Google’s mobile app stores.
