Betting and Gaming Council recruits PoliticsHome editor and confirms executive team
Former RGA chief Wes Himes becomes executive director while PoliticsHome editor Kevin Schofield joins as comms director
The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has appointed PoliticsHome editor Kevin Schofield as its new director of communications and digital.
Schofield will join the BGC in the summer, moving from his current editorial role, which he has occupied since 2015.
A veteran journalist and political commentator, Schofield has more than 25 years’ experience having worked for newspapers across the UK including The Scotsman, The Herald, Daily Record and The Sun.

He will replace current director of communications Gary Follis, who has been appointed to the role of executive director for corporate affairs. Follis will now hold responsibility for communications, government relations and membership.
BGC CEO Michael Dugher hailed the “outstanding” appointment of Schofield, claiming the trade body was getting one of the very best media professionals.
“Kevin is joining an already top class and growing team at the BGC,” said Dugher. “This shows that we are building something exciting at the BGC as we strive to become the very best in the business.”
Speaking about his new role, Schofield said he was thrilled to join the BGC and could not wait to get started.
“I know that they have big ambitions for the years ahead and I’m looking forward to working with the team to help drive up standards in the industry,” he added.
Former RGA CEO Wes Himes has been appointed executive director, standards and innovation and will be responsible for safer gambling, policy, research and regulation for the BGC.
