Calvin Ayre to match $1m in Philippine aid donations
Bodog founder's Foundation has pledged to match donations made to help typhoon-hit Philippines
The Calvin Ayre Foundation has pledged to match all donations made by the gambling industry to assist the disaster-stricken Philippines’ aid effort up to a total of USD$1m.
Calvin Ayre (pictured) has kicked-off donations by personally contributing an additional $200,000 towards relief efforts as the Philippine Central Islands attempts to recover from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Haiyan which struck the area on Friday.
The typoon is estimated to have claimed the lives of more than 10,000 people while some 11 million people are thought to have been affected by the one of the worsts storms ever recorded.
“The Philippines has become home to so many online gambling companies who are capitalizing on the booming Asian gambling market,” the Foundation said in a statement.
“It’s time to repay the generosity of the Filipino people by giving as much back to the country that has given us so much.”
The Foundation has encouraged people to make a donation to a charity of their choice and then email a copy of their receipt to haiyan@calvinayre.com so it can then make an additional payment.
In addition to the matching donations, the Foundation is in the process of adopting a village in the damaged area where the group will directly self-administer the assistance to the people in need.
