Camelot integrates Pingit mobile payment
National Lottery operator to accept mobile payments via Barclays Pingit from next month
Camelot will add its first mobile payment option for National Lottery games in July, after agreeing a deal to integrate Barclays Pingit app.
Pingit person-to-person payment will be available on Camelotâs flagship Lotto game, as well as Thunderball and EuroMillions.
âThis collaboration with Barclays represents a real breakthrough in speed and simplicity for our players â and underlines how weâre continuing to radically enhance The National Lottery playing experience,â Tim Copper, digital director of Camelot, said.
The move also continues a broader strategy by the firm to pivot towards mobile, with a new online and mobile platform launched in September.
Around 60% of traffic to Camelotâs National Lottery website is now coming from smartphones and tablets, although mobile accounts for just 36% of interactive sales.
Camelot is not the first operator to offer Pingit payments, which allows users to initiate a deposit by scanning a QR code, with 32Red introducing the processor last year.
Pingitâs managing director Darren Foulds said that the addition will make life easier to mobile players of the National Lottery.
âThis is a great example of how Pingit has expanded from being the first person-to-person mobile payments app in the UK to now being a viable digital option for paying for everyday goods and services from a mobile phone,â he said.
