Dutch Gambling regulator names new advisory chair
Ronald Prins replaces Arthur Docters van Leeuwen as new chairman
The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has appointed Ronald Prins as the new chairman of its advisory board.
Prins replaces Arthur Docters van Leeuwen, a former chair of the Netherlands Authority for Financial Markets, who has resigned as chair and from his seat on the board.
A former founder of the Fox-IT cybersecurity company, Prins currently holds positions on the Dutch Electoral Council, the Dutch Safety Board and is a member of the member of the review committee for the Intelligence and Security Services Act.
The KSA’s advisory board, first established in 2014, is tasked with providing the KSA with solicited and unsolicited advice regarding gaming industry issues. The board includes individuals from various disciplines, with the common theme that they all have a connection with games of chance.
Prins believes an important task of the board is to bring the outside world into the thinking of the KSA. He said: “’Public organisations such as the Ksa benefit from having literally thermometers in society. They need to know how people think in practice. The advisory council can help to ensure this.”
Highlighting the forthcoming adoption of the remote gaming act as being of particular interest to the advisory board, Prins said there were many important “administrative aspects to regulating a market. How do you create conditions that create an attractive legal market that ensures that illegal providers are pushed aside?”
The other members of the advisory board include Theo Schuyt (professor of Philanthropic Studies at VU University Amsterdam), Han Moraal (member on behalf of the Netherlands of Eurojust), Dike van de Mheen (director Tranzo, scientific centre for care and welfare at Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Tilburg University) and Peter Kuipers (chairman KRO-NCRV).
