Dutch regulator launches licensing kitemark
KSA to require all licensed operators to display links to regulator site from October 2021
The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has launched a first-of-its kind kitemark for operators who receive a licence to operate in the Dutch market. Under the Dutch Remote Gaming Act, which comes into force in April, operators are required to display links to the KSA as well as to self-exclusion and treatment resources on their respective websites, apps and player interfaces. The kitemark is a universally accepted method of informing consumers that they are gambling on a licensed site and similar marks exist in almost all major European gambling markets including the UK, Malta and Sweden. The new kitemark will be required to be used by all licensed operators In the case of the KSA’s kitemark, firms must ensure it is clickable and redirects players to the KSA website. It has been designed to help players recognise which online games of chance are legal and which online games of chance providers have a licence. Operators failing to correctly display the kitemark on their sites and systems could face a fine from the KSA. An additional key objective of the kitemark is to increase channelisation of players to Dutch-licensed operators when the market goes live in October 2021. The Dutch government has committed to achieving a channelisation rate to licensed firms of 80% within three years of the market launch.
