Former William Hill head of technology joins Degree 53
Andy Furnival leaves Hills after seven years to head up software development firm’s tech department
Degree 53 has confirmed the appointment of former William Hill head of technology Andy Furnival as the software development firm’s new technical director.
In his new role, Furnival will be responsible for the technology and development strategy of the business, as well as providing support to Degree 53’s leadership team. He will also provide oversight of the firms’ development, infrastructure, architecture, DevOps and database administration teams.
During his time at William Hill, Furnival occupied several roles including lead mobile architect, senior solutions architect, and lead architect before being promoted to head of technology in February 2018. He also led several strategic projects, including the streamlining of Hills’ sportsbook platforms and oversaw three business divisions with over 130 employees across Europe.
In the prior head of technology role, Furnival was tasked with implementing technical strategy and establishing an efficient operating model with good working practices to be able to scale it in response to business demands.

Speaking about the appointment, Andrew Daniels, Degree 53 managing director, said Furnival would be a “brilliant asset” in leading the company’s technical development.
“Andy brings unrivalled expertise and leadership capabilities that will drive our development. I welcome Andy to the team and am confident he will transform our technical capabilities,” Daniels added.
Daniels confirmed the appointment of Andy Furnival was part of a heavy investment in technical talent to build high-end products for the online gambling industry.
Degree 53’s first online gambling division was launched in 2017 and over the last two years, the firm has recruited a number of solution architects, database administrators, automation testers and infrastructure engineers as part of the recruitment drive.
Speaking about his new role, Andy Furnival said he was “extremely happy” to be joining a company geared towards technical expertise and innovation.
“I believe that with my background in product development and strategy at the operator side, I will lead our teams to deliver even more robust and scalable products for our clients,” Furnival added.
