Gibraltar regulator signs MOU with Swedish Gambling Authority
Regulators to team up on consumer protection and social responsibility
The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gibraltar’s gambling regulator, the Gibraltar Gambling Division (GGD).
Under the terms of the MoU, the two authorities have agreed to share information on matters of mutual interest and policy areas. They have also agreed to provide the best possible operational assistance to one another on a continuous basis in accordance with their own regulatory policies.
The agreement came into force on Wednesday and ultimately aims to deliver enhanced cooperation between the two regulators.
Spelinspektionen director general Camilla Rosenberg said several Swedish licensees also have technical equipment and licences in Gibraltar and that opening the lines of communication between the two regulators would enable both to become stronger in their respective activities.
Spelinspektionen entered into a separate memorandum of understanding with the Malta Gaming Authority in March, with both regulators agreeing similar information sharing measures.
GGD executive director Andrew Lyman said he was looking forward to working “collaboratively and effectively” with first tier regulators such as Spelinspektionen on regulatory issues.
“We have common values in terms of consumer protection, a sound and fair market, promoting social responsibility, and the work of gambling crime,” Lyman added.
