Ladbrokes appoints new mobile chief
Ladbrokes has appointed a new mobile chief to head up its London-based mobile development hub.
Andrew Bagguley joins the firm as Mobile & Devices Director from Deutsche Telekom where he led their Mobile strategy. A Ladbrokes spokesman said he will take responsibility for the new hub and “will be charged with delivering against our mobile goals”.
Bagguley will work closely with Ladbrokes agency partner Chelsea Apps Factory who will be co-located at the London hub. Ladbrokes announced earlier this week it was setting up the new mobile hub to accelerate development of its mobile product.
Ladbrokes move comes in the same week it’s traditional land-based rival William Hill set up its new technology hub in Shoreditch with the aim of recruiting key mobile talent. Mobile is a huge focus for both firms with Hills keen to push on from a strong performance in sportsbook and Ladbrokes trying to catch-up to the likes of Hills, Paddy Power and bet365 in the channel.
A key job for Bagguley will likely be ensuring Ladbrokes is quick to market with its revised mobile products. Barclays analysts put out a research note this morning revising its profit forecast for Ladbrokes down 8% for the year and raised questions over delays to key technology launches saying its turnaround had been “far slower than the market anticipated”.
