Nektan launches Sun Play app
Mobile gaming product features a mix of skill games and slots titles including exclusive Sun-branded games
Mobile gaming platform provider Nektan has continued its media partnering push with the launch of a new gaming app for The Sun, which features a number of skill and real-money games designed for mobile.
Sun Play is the newspapers first major launch in the mobile casino vertical and runs features 12 cash games including the exclusive âReel All About Itâ, which is based upon several sections of The Sun newspaper.
âOur games, whether in the paper or online, are a firm favourite among readers and we fully expect Sun Play to become another popular part of The Sunâs gaming offerings,â David Dinsmore, The Sun editor, said.
The newspaper will be looking to build on the success of its Gamesys-powered Sun Bingo site, and is clearly aiming for the casual gaming end of the market with Sun Play featuring a number of free skill games including a football-themed Keepy Uppy game and a match-three style game called Beach Blast.
The product is the latest to come out of a series of deals with major media companies with Nektan previously signing agreements with Irelandâs Independent News & Media and London business newspaper City AM to provide white-label mobile casinos.
“We are excited to be working with News UK as their partner of choice to develop and operate Sun Play, an innovative, best in class gaming and entertainment experience across mobile, tablet and desktop platforms,â David Gosen, Nektanâs CEO, said.
âTo be working with such a large and trusted partner as The Sun on a multi-year contract to deliver free and cash games is a tremendous endorsement for everyone at Nektan. We fully expect our partnership with News UK, powering Sun Play, to underpin our European gaming revenues through 2015 and beyond,â he added.
In April Nektan secured a new £7.1m financing package to help fund expansion in the US and support its growing European business, just over a month after the firm warned of a need for fresh investment following a maiden H1 loss.
At the time Gosen said the funding was âa clear endorsementâ of the firmâs strategy and that the last six months had seen an âacceleration in demandâ for its mobile gaming platform
