Playtech expands casual games arm with Funtactix acquisition
Supplier adds to YoYo Games and Plamee F2P businesses with deal for IP-based games developer
Playtech has acquired free-to-play games developer Funtactix for an undisclosed sum as the egaming supplier looks to ramp-up its presence in the casual games space.
The deal for the award-winning games publisher was described by Playtech as a “central pillar” of its long-term strategy in the soft games market, which first began with the creation of its Plamee studio in 2014.
Last year Playtech also completed a ?14m acquisition of GameMaker: Studio developer YoYo Games which enables developers to create games using a single code base.
“The Playtech casual games division has a clear strategy and direction and we’re very confident it will continue to go from strength-to-strength,” Shimon Akad, COO of Playtech, said.
“The acquisition of Funtactix, in addition to Plamee and YoYo Games, enables us to offer a complete suite of content and software to players, designers and third parties including some of the largest studios and brands in the world.”
Funtactix was founded in 2006 and has published a number of branded free-to-play games based on popular Hollywood movies including The Hunger Games, Mission: Impossible and Rocky.
As part of the new deal, Funtactix will continue to develop titles under its FTX Games publishing division and look to leverage Playtech’s internal game development resources.
