Racehorse Owners Association president joins BHA board
ROA president and Crimbourne Bloodstock owner Charlie Parker takes up directorial role with racing authority
Newly appointed Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) president Charlie Parker has joined the British Horseracing Association’s board of directors, the BHA has confirmed. Parker, who was made president of the association in May and will serve a three-year term, replaces his predecessor Nicholas Cooper as one of the two BHA directors appointed by the association, Thoroughbred Breeders Association (TBA) and the National Trainers Federation (NTF). The second director, trainer and breeder Luca Cumani, has already joined the board in October 2019. Parker owns and manages Crimbourne Bloodstock, a privately-run stud business, and has been an owner for over 25 years with both flat and national hunt horses. ROA president Charlie Parker Parker said he was delighted to join the BHA board, as it looks to steer the industry back to growth following the impact of Covid-19 on UK horseracing. “We face huge challenges across our industry which must be tackled together if we are to ensure the sport we all love can recover from the current crisis and grow into a more robust model in the future,” said Parker. BHA chair Annamarie Phelps paid tribute to the outgoing Nicholas Cooper and his contribution to the sport during the “challenging” shutdown period. “Charlie will be a valuable addition to our team of directors and I look forward to working alongside him, our colleagues nominated by racecourses, and the independent members of our Board,” Phelps added.
