Sportsbet unveils dedicated eSports site
Respawn goes live on mobile and desktop, featuring the latest event odds and live tournament streams
Sportsbet has unveiled a dedicated eSports website as the Paddy Power Betfair-owned operator looks to reap the rewards of the burgeoning eSports betting market.
Respawn was launched by the Australia-facing operator last week and features a live stream of some of the biggest eSports tournaments, such as Counter-Strike, Global Offensive, League of Legends and Dota 2.
The new product, which is available to customers on desktop and mobile web, also includes live match statistics, event odds and upcoming tournament information.
“This is an awesome new product we’ve built for the Aussie gaming community,” Sportsbet spokesperson, Christian Jantzen, said. “It brings together an extremely fast live stream of some of the biggest global eSports tournaments.”
“Alongside the ability to exchange in banter via chat, view live match stats, check out the latest odds and upcoming tournament info, [Respawn] will allow Aussie gamers to stay on the pulse and the money,” Jantzen added.
According to the Northern Territory-licensed operator, the eSports industry now has a global audience of approximately 134 million.
News of the Respawn release comes after the recent launch of a new industry body designed to tackle match fixing in eSports, featuring bookmakers including Betway, Pinnacle and Unikrn.
The new eSports Integrity Coalition (ESIC) was set up as a response to the “rapidly increasing threat of betting fraud arising from a burgeoning eSports betting market,” according to a statement from the body.
