Top 10 UK egaming advertising campaigns: Numbers 10-6
eGR asked its panel of marketing experts, including international marketer Don LaMonde and consultants Sabin Brooks and Peter Marcus, to pick their most effective UK campaigns of the last 10 years.
10 Full Tilt
TV (2004-present)
Don LaMonde: “Their ads with the famous and infamous of poker were pretty slick, weren’t they? Reservoir Dogs, inside edge of the pro game, black & white. They made PokerStars’ advertising look like something filmed by a GCSE Media Studies class. But they broke the cardinal rule: next time you want to attract millions of customers and advertise worldwide, make sure it’s all legal, alright?!”
9 Asian operators and the Premier League
Sponsorship (2008-present)
The rumour that 188Bet had CPAs of around £20k per new UK punter for season one of its English Premier League sponsorships is probably over-egged, but as LaMonde points out: “If you have two teams, they each play the top six teams twice, that equals 24 satellite games whereby your branding is seen by half of China, who mostly bet on Manchester United, City, Liverpool , Chelsea and so on. Asian handicap doesn’t care about UK punters “ our league is just a vehicle.”
8 Gamesys for Jackpot Joy
TV (2002-present)
Sabin Brooks: “Jackpot Joy communicates exactly what its name says and presents a fun and inclusive environment in which people can play.”
7 PokerStars
TV
Brooks: “‘Find the PokerStar in You’ wins my best poker campaign of the last 10 years. Did a fantastic job appealing to poker players of all abilities and localised it very successfully using celebrity players like Boris Becker.”
6 PKR
CRM (2006-present)
LaMonde: “To everyone else, CRM is about promotions, email software and good database management. To PKR it’s about informing players how their own, self-made avatar is getting on at the tables. You want loyalty? Ask the player how they want their experience to work for them, personalise it and make it fun. Until you get DreamWorks making a poker product, no-one can touch them.
The countdown will conclude tomorrow with numbers 5 down to 1.
