UK anti-doping chief reappointed as UKGC commissioner
Trevor Pearce to receive second four-year term on the Gambling Commission’s Board of Commissioners
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has confirmed the reappointment of Trevor Pearce to the Gambling Commission’s Board of Commissioners for a second four-year term.
Pearce, who was first appointed to the post in 2015, will now serve on the board until 2023. He currently serves as chair of the UK Anti-Doping agency, having previously served as director general of the National Crime Squad and the Serious Organised Crime Agency.
A recipient of a CBE in 2018, Pearce has also received the Queens Police Medal for services to policing over a 40-year career in the Metropolitan Police.
The ten-member board, which is made up of individuals from different sectors, is designed to function independently of the Commission, providing oversight to the DCMS.
It aims to provide “experience and knowledge” from these sectors to assist the Gambling Commission in the pursuit of its licensing objectives.
These objectives include the prevention of gambling related crime, ensuring gambling is safe and preventing children and other individuals from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
