William Hill takes over 34 Betfred on-track shops
London-listed bookmaker now boasts on-course presence at 41 of 60 racecourses around the UK
William Hill has acquired 34 new on-track betting shops and kiosks thanks to a new deal with Betfred.
Hills will operate the shops with exclusive on-course access thanks to partnerships with Jockey Club Racing and Go Racing Yorkshire, as well as a number of independent venues around the country.
The deal brings Hills’ number of on-track shops from a mere seven up to 41.
It means Hills is now operating on-course betting shops with 41 of the 60 racecourses across the UK, including Perth, Exeter, Doncaster, York, Cheltenham and Aintree.
William Hill’s divisional director of retail, Steven White, said: “Our founder William Hill initially started betting on-course in 1922.
“The company has had a racecourse presence all over the UK for over 90 years.
“Horse Racing remains an important part of our business and as a company we believe that with the ever changing landscape of retail betting, it is important that we embrace this opportunity by investing in horseracing,” he added.
Betfred is winding down its on-course presence as its Tote monopoly expires today (July 13).
