YGAM unveils former England footballer as first charity ambassador
Bolton Wanderers and London 2012 squad player Marvin Sordell to share insights on mental health issues and gambling-related harm
The Young Gamers & Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) has recruited its first ever charity ambassador, former Bolton Wanderers and England Under-21 international Marvin Sordell. Sordell retired from football in 2018, citing mental health as a major factor behind his decision and has since spoken out about issues related to mental health in football. In his new role as YGAM ambassador, Sordell will, on a voluntary basis, provide insight to inform YGAM education programmes with a focus on mental health. Sordell has also worked extensively with HRH Duke of Cambridge as part of the national Heads Up campaign led by the FA and Heads Together. “This is a fantastic charity led by some inspirational people in Lee, Anne and Keith,” Marvin Sordell commented. “I joined the YGAM away day a few months ago and I was blown away by the passion and enthusiasm of everyone that works to deliver their education programmes. “It’s amazing to see teachers, parents, youth workers and people with lived experience come together to safeguard future generations. “I’ve also been really impressed with their collaborations with football club community trusts and I’m looking forward to supporting their great work,” he added. YGAM operates several gambling-related harm educational programmes and has worked with the BGC on a £10m gambling education programme in partnership with GamCare.
